One of my dearest friends is visiting the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Italy. (He likes to be stealth, so I'll just say, "Thank you, Friend! You know who you are!") He sent me this amazing panoramic photo this morning. (Click on image above to enlarge.) I was inspired to share this far-off, beautiful place with you, along with some of my favorite Saint Francis quotes to help carry you through the rest of your week ...
Saint Francis has been admired throughout history by Christians and non-Christians, and is revered by Catholics as the Patron Saint of Animals and Ecology. He is also the namesake of our current beloved Pope, and "Francis" is the baptismal name of my late feisty and funny "Grampa Brecht." In fact many years ago during a trip to Italy, I happened to be visiting the Basilica of Saint Francis and lighting a candle in honor of Grampa on the very day he passed, which I wasn't informed of until several days later. It was one of those life experiences that taught me there are no coincidences.
Here's a short video if you'd like to learn more about the life of Saint Francis.
